This course is designed for Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers looking to integrate blended learning strategies into their unique instructional environments. Modeled on our core course, Foundations of Blended Learning, this edition includes CTE-specific examples, tools, and exemplars created by past UTeach PD participants and Certified Blended Learning Educators. Participants will explore how to personalize learning using free, accessible digital platforms while balancing hands-on instruction with student-centered design.
*Course fees qualify for reimbursement by the Texas Education Agency upon completion.
Module 1 Blended Learning: Where Do I Start? (4 hours)
- Research current blended learning practices and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for educators and summarize findings
- Learn about different models of blended learning and create a station rotation module
- Review technology tools that foster student-centered learning in a blended CTE classroom, including Padlet for collaboration, AI-specific tools for teacher planning and student learning, and online resources for creating student portfolios
Module 2 Personalized Learning in the CTE Blended Classroom (6 hours, GT credit eligible)
- Research personalized learning and review secondary and CTE-specific videos and lesson exemplars that showcase what personalized learning might look like in a CTE setting
- Create a sample personalized learning plan and provide/receive peer feedback
- Review sample data tracking systems and develop a tool to support student data and progress tracking
Module 3 Tools and Strategies for Managing a Blended CTE Environment (8 hours)
- Research blended classroom management tools and develop a blended classroom management plan
- Participate in discussions regarding enhancement of communication and collaboration
- Explore AI tools for lesson planning
- Create a blended 5E lesson plan
Module 4 Capstone: Blended Learning Reflections (12 hours)
- Conduct observations of blended learning classrooms and provide feedback
- Choose from a set of blended learning topics to further research: designed blended learning CTE lessons, creating video instruction using Canva, technology and the 5E learning cycle, student-centered learning, collaboration, and more
- Map out and share blended learning "Next Steps"
- Write a reflection paper
